Clearing the field: A final dramatic charge by much of the police line forces the miners to flee from the field (in reality over the Rotherham to Worksop railway line but in our re-enactment, to a “safe haven” so part 1 of the re-enactment could end safely). As (bizarrely) in 1984, some “miners” have smiles on their faces from the excitement of it all. Others during the real “battle” were however rather less lucky, being caught and beaten and/or arrested. Our stunt team graphically recreated some of these violent incidents.
