The Battle of Orgreave

Mounted police charge out from within the police lines and drive the miners up the hill, this time with the whole police line advancing behind them, moving 30 yards up the slope.

Soon, following two verbal warnings, the miners will be faced up by fast-moving short shield arrest squads, some of whom can seen here in the distance, about to be marched up from the rear. In 1984 this was the first time short shield officers had been used on mainland Britain and was thus a major turning point in the policing of industrial disputes.
