The
Battle of Orgreave

A dramatic moment from our recreation of the battle for Channel 4: With the long shield officers drumming their truncheons on their shields “Zulu” style, the centre of the police cordon swings inwards and the mounted police canter out, chasing miners away from the line. A scene from the early stages of the confrontation.
Every aspect of the re-enactment was designed to be as accurate as possible, with no political "spin". Even so, mistakes can sometimes occur in the excitement of a re-enactment and here the "mounted police" have drawn their batons, although footage from 1984 confirms that in reality the mounted units did not do so until much later in the day.
