The Battle of Orgreave

Event Director Howard Giles runs through the day’s training and rehearsal schedule with the re-enactors and extras on Saturday June 15 2001. Because of the poor weather, the re-enactors and extras did not wear full police uniform and miners’ period clothing, protecting it for the next day.
This ground-breaking live re-enactment for Jeremy Deller, Artangel and Channel 4, featuring 800 re-enactors and local extras including veterans of the actual clash in 1984, was felt by many as the most realistic recreation they had ever witnessed.
