Simon Kirk as a wonderfully menacing Walsingham. Simon was one of our original specialist extras featured in Guy Fawkes. Subsequently appearing in several episodes of Historyonics, his talent and credentials as an actor soon propelled him into some excellent prime roles. Meanwhile, several other specialist extras from Historical Film Services* also found themselves regularly cast during the series.
Despite one or two truly surreal comedy sequences, Mary, Queen of Scots proved rather different from the other programmes in the series, on the whole being much darker than the usual light-hearted approach.
On 7 December 2004 writer and presenter Nick Knowles received a Royal Television Award for the series, screened during the Spring.
